What training will I get?

Training:
This is where the main value of taking a franchise comes in for you. You have an experienced team backing you – this is invaluable and will save you time, money and stress. We really know our stuff, and we share all of that with you and teach you how to run your business.
This is the entire reason people buy a franchise rather than going it alone. It is well know that the success rates for franchises are MUCH higher than people starting their own business.
When you join us you have access to a team committed to mentoring you. That’s what we do at head office day in and day out, and we get told by our team we do it very well.
People don’t buy franchises because they are not smart enough or not hard working enough, or not savvy enough to start their own business from scratch. They buy a franchise because they’re not sure where to start, and quite simply they want it to work! They want their business to make money and be profitable as soon as possible. The don’t want to waste money making costly mistakes and take ages figuring out what works and what doesn’t work. Why would you when you can have someone show you exactly how it’s done?
I remember when I started Cook Stars (or Little Chefs as it very first started out as) and the things I didn’t know and had to learn. It was a tough slog and an expensive, difficult, stressful - often very wobbly learning curve!
It was a massive list of unknowns looking back - how do I set up a website, how do I get a domain name, how do I get a logo designed, how do I get e mail, what venues should I use, what could we and should we cook, what timings to use, how to book customers, what the terms and conditions should be, what parental permissions I needed, how to ensure customers are safe, how to write a risk assessment, how allergies are managed, how to get 5 star rated with the Food Standards Agency, what qualifications I needed, what insurance I needed and where to get it, what are the legal requirements, how do I get a DBS, how do I set up a business with HMRC, how do I do accounts and do I need an accountant, how do I pay myself, do I need a business bank account, where to get leaflets printed, how to design leaflets, what equipment and kit I needed, how to set up social media sites, how to be visible online, what SEO is and how to use it, how to market to people, who am I marketing to, how much should I charge, how do I use paid advertising, what I’m allowed to do with customer information (GDPR), how so I make sure the business was profitable, what crafts to do at class, how should I set up the class, what will people need at class, what I was going to do to offer exceptional customer service and how to ask for reviews from customers…oh and erm, how do I even get customers in the first place?!
Then as it grew it was figuring out other services to add (parties / workshops / schools / organisations / charities) and how to get in front of those people and show them I am the right person for the job and make all the services a success….and what merchandise would be useful to customers and how to get that designed and what manufacturers to use and how much to charge. Then as it grew more, how do I employ people, what qualifications do they need, how do I train them and ensure they are representing my business well and so it goes on and on….
You get the idea! It was pretty overwhelming and took a lot of working out, a lot of time and some expensive mistakes. The good news is - this is all the stuff you DO NOT need to figure out!
We’ll teach you all this and so on day one, you’ll just know all the answers and can just crack on and get started.
We cover all of this in the 2 days training we deliver to you and it’s also in our online E-learning system so you always have it to have it to refer back to and we’re always there too of course! It is a very smart move to take a franchise if you want to short cut the route to profitability and running a business with much more ease and enjoyment.
There is a LOT of value in your investment.
Training takes place over 2 days with Faye (our operations manager). There is a lot to learn, but we always tell people not to be overwhelmed because you don’t need to know it all at once! For example, you don’t need to know exactly what equipment you need to pack for a high tea party - until you are running a high tea party….and when you do it is all covered in the E- learning system. There are checklists and timings and all sorts of tools waiting for you when the time is right and these opportunities happen.
After training Faye will then book in weekly calls with you. You can of course get in touch at any other time too, but these weekly calls are dedicated to helping you and covering whatever you want to discuss and need help with.
At the start you will need lots of help and support and Faye is in regular contact with our new starters. We make sure you have all the right information at the right time and teach you what you need to do and when and Faye is great at pointing you in the right direction.
After training you will also have all your equipment and so will be ready to start!! It is usual to be nervous at this point, but you’ll have our support and also the support of the whole team. We have a lovely private team Facebook page where the team help and support each other. Faye also runs weekly ‘Cook Stars clinics’ so if anyone want to talk through anything they can. There is a wealth of experience in the team and so there is a lot of help and support on hand. You will NEVER be short of help and support to ensure you have every opportunity to succeed.
